Well, believe it or not, everybody was up and at breakfast by 6:30 this morning. I wouldn’t say everybody was in their best mood, but we were there none-the-less. After breakfast, we got loaded up, and headed off to the job-site. Sam J and myself meandered around Berkeley Springs looking for a WiFi Spot to upload yesterday’s report …we finally found one on our 3rd try.
We all descended upon the Barney house and Adham’s crew (Jenna, Codi, Michelle, Sarah, Sam B), started dismantling the front deck. Joe’s crew (Bryan, Sean, Kara, Tori) started cleaning and sweeping the roof. Bob’s small crew(Ryan and Taylor) started working in the bedroom closet. Joel’s floor crew (Ashley, Carrie, Sam J, Aaron, Kate) began tearing out the floor in the back room of the addition. We also started rotating people to begin digging our drainage ditch behind the house. Work proceeded at a rapid pace until about 11ish, when we reached a stopping point. The deck was dismantled, the roof was clean(and drying), the closet floor was done as far as we could get, and we had the majority of the backroom floor removed.
We broke for lunch and drove down to the Park in Berkeley Springs to eat. Ham sandwiches, PBJ’s, apples, and chips….with Ms. Becky’s brownies for dessert….. THANKS BECKY!!!!!
Back on the jobsite, the roof crew started putting down roof felt, the deck crew finished cleaning up and preparing for construction tomorrow, the floor crew cut out the rotted out rafters, and began digging out the gravel on the outside of the house, under where we were working.
About 3pm we reached a stopping point where we didn’t really have enough to keep 24 people busy, so a small group went to the pool in BS, a group went back to camp for showers, and Adham, Aaron, Joe and myself stayed and put in the support beam for the wall that was hanging in mid-air.
We had a good day, work-wise, got more done in some areas than expected, some less. We seemed to have a larger than normal share of scratches, cuts, etc., but with pulling nails and stuff, that happens. I put more band-aids on today, than I have in a long time.
Dinner was at Wesley Chapel UMC (a new spot for us). Salad, spaghetti with meatballs, french bread, and desserts for dinner. We got back to camp for bathroom clean-up(our only day of that….YAY!)and vespers. Sarah, Ashley & Ike (aka Sean) gave our site reports. Site reports are where each workgroup tells the rest what they did today. Seth showed up from kicking camp, and Seth’s parent’s Andy & Sally joined us for Vespers. We’re now back at camp, and now everybody is goofing off, hanging out, etc.
Until tomorrow…..GOD BLESS!!
Joel
