Well, it got hotter today…but I’m jumping ahead…..
Up for breakfast at 6:30 again….two days in a row…..YAY! We got to the jobsite and some of were able to get started. We seem to be having some material delivery issues, which is slowing down some progress, but that happens sometimes, so not much we can do about it.
After going to Goodwill for a throw-away shoe buying spree, Joe’s roof crew(Jenna, Aaron, Taylor, Sarah, Sam J, Carla) got right to work and started laying down the rolled roofing. My flooring crew (Kara, Codi, Sean, Tori, Alex ) were able to get started bolting together the wall support joists. Unfortunately, Adham’s deck crew(Carrie, Bryan, Ryan, Sam B, Seth) and Bob’s closet crew (Ashley & Michelle) were victims of the materials procurement and transportation issue, so they were dead in the water for most of the morning. I realized I hadn’t mentioned Janet in my crew assignments, so to make sure it doesn’t sound like she’s sitting back with her feet propped up, Janet has been kind of a floater, moving from crew to crew doing whatever is necessary….GOOD JOB JANET!!
We hit the park again for lunch, and shortly after we got back, our materials shipment got there, and we were able to jump back to work. Joe’s group got 1/2 the roof done, Adham’s deck crew got the deck framework up, Bob crew got the closet floor finished, and my crew got the the floor joists leveled and tied in.
It got quite hot in the afternoon, and while not too bad in the shade, being in the sun was brutal. The roof crew had to quit a bit early because the roofing material was too hot to work with, plus the heat was really beating them up.
Dinner was at Hancock Presbyterian, where in the past we’ve had Sloppy Joes, and at most churches, the meals stay the same year to year, so when we walked in to fried chicken, corn, baked beans, pasta salad, ice cream sundays, it became BONUS DAY. The windows in this church are truly amazing, and I love coming to eat dinner here.
Vespers went well, we had a visiting group that was bicycling down the Potomac to raise money for a church/mission in Uganda. The pastor from the church spoke to the Camp Joy group about his church. Melissa arrived during vespers and will be spending the rest of the week, since Carla will be leaving on Wed. after work.
As I type, we’re watching a movie…Joe got the brainstorm to bring one of the screens we use for Friday Fun Nights and a projector, so we’re watching Narnia outside under the stars….uh, the clouds)
Until tomorrow…..
God Bless
Joel
