We’re Done!!!!

We had planned to be done at 4pm, and we finally drove away slightly after 4. Most of our group headed off to the pool a bit earlier, as we had run out of things for 24 people to do. But let me go back a bit…

cj_sunrise1 We rolled everybody out of the sack at 5:30 and in their pj’s drove up to God’s open Window for our Annual Watch the Sunrise Adventure. It was a bit foggy and we figured the sun was  gonna be a no-show, but about 6:15, it started to peak through. By the time we left to walk over to breakfast it was quite pretty.cj_sunrise2

Speaking of breakfast; pancakes, bacon, and a bit of left over sausage. We went back to the campsite to get ready for the day and rolled out about 8. We hit the ground running trying to get everything done. Janet and Melissa’s paneling crew got the hole fixed, the wall insulated, and the paneling cut and installed. We had to cut around an air conditioner and a window, so it took some time. My ceiling crew started measuring, cutting, and installing the last 3 pieces of ceiling. They actually had to cut the first piece twice, learning the lesson of measure twice and cut once. Adham and his deck crew finished the the last few things on the deck. Bob and his closet/floor/threshold crew finished the closet/floor/threshold.

The main route through Berkeley Springs really loads up on Friday’s, so we didn’t want to fight the traffic back to the park, so we went the other way to the little league park where we found some picnic tables and a covered pavilion.

A special story to tell you…. after we got back from our scouting trip in early June, I was telling Tom and Susan (Robinson) about our job-site at dinner one evening and about Mr. and Mrs. Barney. She asked if she could make a couple of lap quilts for them. I said sure, if she had time, that would be wonderful. Before we left Susan gave me the quilts to bring to WV.  Fast forward to today…after lunch we had planned to give the quilts to Mr. Barney. His wife unfortunately had been placed in a nursing home before we arrived. (The good news is that she is responding well in the nursing home) We were working along and waiting for a couple of adults to return so we could present the quilts, when one of the kids cj_quilt came running up saying Mr. Barney was about to leave. Fortunately he doesn’t move too fast, so we congregated in the driveway and presented our gift. Needless to say their weren’t many dry eyes….at least mine weren’t….. Susan, I can’t thank you enough for your most generous gift, I’m sure the quilts will be put to good use.

After pool/cleanup we all descended on the camp to shower, clean up, smell better for dinner. We rolled out and headed to Maria’s Italian restaurant for our traditional Friday Night Dinner. Needless to say we’re big on cj_dinner tradition…it’s actually surprising how much the yutes really latch on to the traditional aspects of what we’ve done previously. Dinner was awesome and our accordion player was back after several years of absence.

As I write, we’re bowling, and having a good time. It’s hard to believe the week has gone by so fast…cj_bowling we’ll get loaded up in the morning, and we have “our” Vespers Service at the closing one tomorrow morning. After that we’ll be on the road and God willing be back at church sometime around 3-ish.

Thank you for the prayers, and everything else, and we look forward to seeing you on Wednesday, 7/23 @ 7pm for our Camp Joy Service. We’ll have pictures, stories, and who know’s what else.

God Bless and see you all soon

Joel
