Ok, I need to clarify a little something I said in yesterday’s update. When I talked about the illness affecting Vespers, I was NOT talking about anyone in our group. The youth leader from First UMC in Berkeley Springs, who has led the music/worship component in past years, has double pneumonia and was unable to be with us on Sunday night.
Now on to our day….
We were up early and left for breakfast at 6:45. The camp is split into an upper camp and a lower(where we camp), and breakfast is cooked and served in the upper camp. Breakfast was actually quite good; scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, cereal. We ate, and were off to Sheets(a convenience store) for ice, coffee, etc. Then we were off to our job sites.
Ramp Job Site – Joe, Melissa, Joe, Aaron, Ashley, Bryan, Sarah
We started locating and leveling the deck blocks for the corner towers. After getting the first set done, Ashley, Sarah, Melissa, and myself(Joel) started building the tower, while Aaron, Bryan and Joe went and started on the 2nd tower. By lunch we had the 1st tower @ 80%, and the 2nd tower @ 25%. Lunch was Ham or PBJ sandwiches, after lunch, we attacked the towers again. After we
finished Tower 1, we moved to the middle tower, finishing that by the end of the day. We also got started on locating and leveling the blocks for the supports in between the tower. Tomorrow we start running the connecting stringers.
Paint Site – Adham, Bob, Janet, Carrie, Megan, Ryan, Alex, Carter, Sam, Kate
The paint crew hit the site and got moving. They cleaned the back porch and painted it. Evidently the cleaning aspect was the much harder element of this. They pulled and replaced a piece of rotten soffit. They got one whole side of the house painted, and got a good start on second side of house. They also got the second story over the back porch painted as well. Couple of
cool stories on this job. The neighbor baked and delivered M&M Chocolate Chip Cookies, and all during the day, people driving by were beeping and waving at our kids. Very Cool! Wasp Spray Can Usage = 3
Paw Paw Site – Danny, Erin, Sean, Taylor, Michelle
The girls ripped the shingles off the bay window, and they also removed the plywood from the bay window. The guys attacked the sliding door and removed the rotting wood and replaced it. They also put everything back together again….always a good thing. They talked with the homeowner quite a bit and learned that
she lived in Germany until she was 21, when she met and fell in love with an American Soldier, and was convinced to move to Paw Paw… that’s love!
All us adults were talking and I can’t tell you how much each adult was raving about how hard our kids worked today. They busted their butts, BIG TIME!!! Way to go Youth!!!
