Camp Joy – Day Two – 7/21/09

campjoytwo

Well, another very productive day. We were up and actually up to breakfast (waffles, sausage, cereal) a little early, then left for the job-sites, with our customary stop at Sheetz. Tori and Jeff showed up today. (Tori had been at a field hockey camp)

Paint Site – Adham, Bob, Melissa, Aaron, Sean, Carter, Megan, Michelle, Taylor

CJ12They battled wasps, and in between actually got some painting done. They replaced some rotten wood, and fought the wasps a few more times. Both sides of the house have been painted once, and the porches will be done tomorrow.  Did I mention they had a wasp problem? Well, if you missed that part…they’ve currently used 5 cans of wasp spray. The Paint Site should be done by Thursday.

Paw Paw – Danny, Janet, Bryan, Sarah, Ashley

CJ11This is our over-achieving bunch of workers. They put the trim around the sliding glass door and painted it, shingled the bay window, fixed the roof of the entrance way, and worked on her swinging gate…and still showed up at the ramp site by 3 pm.

Ramp Site – Joe, Joel, Erin, Carrie, Sam, Alex, Ryan, Kate

CJ13 Joe, Ryan, Kate, & Alex started working on the tallest tower at the end of the ramp. The rest of us started connecting the ramps we built yesterday with stringers and support piers. We made good progress finishing the tall tower and completely connecting the 3 smaller towers on the side of the house. When Danny’s crew arrived they started x-bracing  the towers and piers. And by the end of the day we actually started laying some deck boards. Tomorrow we’ll be throwing a huge crew at the ramp…expecting to get a lot of work done.

Dinner was at a new church in Berkeley, and we had bbq chicken with covered-dish other stuff. 4 STARS, hope we go there next year.

Vespers

CJ14 Tonight was our vespers service, and everything went great. I don’t want to say too much…you’ll get to see it at the Camp Joy Service on August 2.

CJ15 After Vespers, the youth had a rowsing game of Ultimate Frisbee, then we just hung out in camp.

Prayers Still Needed

No major injuries so far, a few scrapes and cuts, but nothing major so far. Jeff and Melissa will be leaving tomorrow, and Carla will be arriving. Tomorrow is also the pool day, so we’ll only work until about 2 or so.
