Camp Joy – Day Four – Thursday, 7/23/09

Another busy day today, with lots of work getting accomplished, and several fun things. We started the day with a sprinkling rain, and overcast…by lunch the sun was out and it got hot…now onto the report.

Paint Site – Adham, Bob, Janet, Ashley, Bryan, Aaron, Michelle

CJ24 The paint crew got busy on the house and finished virtually everything we went to do. Had they had a little more white paint, they would have been able to touch up a few spots, but oh well. For lunch they drove back to Hancock and bought lunch at Hardee’s , and drove back to Sidling Hill, which is the CJ22 big cut-through the mountain for Interstate 68. After lunch the crew went back and packed up the scaffolding, ladders, etc. I do have a story to share with you. Ms. Ann, the homeowner, told Janet how much her and her husband enjoyed having the kids around this week, that they don’t get to see many people.

Bathroom Site – Joe, Erin, Taylor, Carter, Sarah, Megan

CJ25 The MS Work Crew went the the Merchant’s house and ripped up the carpet in the bathroom  and while the floor underneath was drying, they went out and ripped up the carpet on the patio. They then started replacing the patio carpet and went til they ran out of glue. Then the tiling began in bathroom, then some more outside carpet, then more tiling til they had to break for dinner.

Ramp Job – Joel, Danny, Carla, Carrie, Sam, Sean, Ryan, Alex, Tori, Kate

CJ26 Tori and Kate worked all day on laying the deck boards on the upper level.  Ryan, Alex and Sean started putting the lower bracing on our support piers, then moved to drilling holes and bolting the bracing. Danny, Sam, and Carrie started on the railings. This is how most of the day went. I floated everywhere doing a little bit of this and a little bit of that. Tomorrow most of the crew will be on the ramp job, getting it finished.

Lunch at the Wheelers

CJ27 As I told you yesterday, our site coordinator and his wife invited the ramp(and bathroom) crew to their house for lunch. They live in a development in the mountains on 7 acres of land. We got there and sat on either their wrap-around deck, or out CJ28 at the fire pit with a fire going. The fire keeps the bugs away. Lunch was shish-kabobs (chicken, sausage, pineapple, tomatoes, onion, peppers, squash), a 2 color rice dish, salad and dessert. I’m not kidding when I say this was a 10-Star Lunch…the food, the location, the weather, everything. I could have spent all afternoon there…but…sadly could not.  THANK YOU Grant and Nancy Wheeler!!!!!

The Rest of the Day/Night

CJ29 Dinner was at St. Thomas Episcopal in Hancock, fried chicken, and covered dish…we ate good today!!! Vespers was at First UMC…again…due to weather, then we headed off to Dairy Queen for our traditional truck honking experience.

Tomorrow is sunrise at God’s Open Window, finish our job, Goodwill Trip, dinner at Maria’s and hopefully bowling.

And home on Saturday.
