Today we rose up and had breakfast at 6:00A.M. We enjoyed pancakes and sausage. We began our journey to Paw-Paw by stopping at Sheetz to get snacks,etc. Joel took Janet, Kate, Hailee, Lil’ Shawn, Taylor and Andrew to the Powell site to start to dig trenches to begin building the lower platform. They also built the foundation for the lower platform. Then they put the boards on the upper platform and poured concrete in the final hole.Joel went back again to the Paw-Paw library to upload the web update. Joel would like to give a major shout out to the Paw-Paw library for allowing him to use their free wireless connections, and of course,putting up with him for the past two days and the next three days to come. (love you Joel).  Adham had Carrie, Bryan, John, Tori, Carter, Ashley and Erin for the Athey site. They completed the decking  for the deck attached to the sliding glass door and also stapled the the balusters to make the deck almost done. They then started to removed the deck boards, balusters; leaving the foundation there. After doing this, they realized how bad of shape it was in. Joe had Melissa,  Sarah, Sean, Sam, Trey and Jenna  to work on the Delcid site. They built the foundation for the ramp. They also cut the deck boards and started to screw them in.  We again had lunch at Paw-Paw UMC, having chicken nuggets and fries. We then went back to the sites to finish what we could today. We left for Berkeley Springs to go to Trinity Asbury UMC for dinner. Lasagna was on the menu with garlic bread, salad with dressings, fruit and of course deserts. We enjoyed Hancock’s Worship Band back at Camp for our vespers service. For our site report, Kip(Sean) and LaFonda(Tori) had the crowd laughing at Sean’s impression of Kip from Napoleon Dynamite. Kate also joined the party to report on her site. A group of kids went back to the creek to enjoy their newly beloved treasure, a rope swing tied to a tree. And of course, they came back drenched! As we sit here, we are getting attacked by annoying tiny bugs. Adham had to kill a wolf spider off a tent. We worked on the web update, relaxed, and headed for bed, praying for no rain unlike last night and the night before.

Well, the crew got up early to go to breakfast at 6:00A.M. We enjoyed scrambled eggs, bacon and toast. We left for Sheetz’s to complete our daily ritual. The group  split up, and Joel tried to upload our summary of yesterday’s accomplishments. Unfortunately, that failed quite epically.We all met up at the Athey site to distribute drinks to the Athey and Delcid sites, which were very close together.  Joel then took Melissa, Ashley, Carrie, Sean, Jenna, Trey and Carter to the Powell site to start demolishing the ramp. We accomplished most of the demolishing, making us on schedule .  Adham had Sarah, Andrew, Taylor, Tori and John. They built the foundation for the Athey site. They put half of the deck boards on and also started putting up the railing. Joe’s group which was Shawn, Sam, Bryan, Kate, and Hailee; went to the Delcid site and raked/dug trenches, also set up the boardwalk. They also cut wood and leveled concrete boxes. We had lunch at the air-conditioned Paw-Paw UMC(which felt AMAZING!). We had a cheesy chicken and rice casserole, ham sandwiches, peach cups,tangy lemonade, ice tea, chips and lemon cake. We went back to our job sites, and completed our first official day of Camp Joy 2010! We left Paw-Paw around 4:15, to head to Hancock for dinner. We enjoyed taco night, which was a choice of either taco chips or a soft taco, refried beans and green beans with a toppings bar and ice cream sundae’s at Hancock UMC. We also  had our worship service there where Brain, Sarah, Ashley, and Sean gave a synopsis to the whole camp on each of the sites (a.k.a site reports).  After the worship service we returned to camp for fellowship with our group. A group of kids went down to the creek and discovered a rope and swing. They all came back fairly drenched.

The Camp Joy crew met up at church at 6 A.M. Joel shared why we did not have our shirts for the SNL commissioning service. Long story short, Satan was already working against us. Joel reminded us about keeping God first and making the week about glorifying God in everything we do. Before we left the crew got a group picture taken by parents and fellow youth leaders. We were on the road by 6:40. After crossing over the Bay Bridge, we took a pit stop and switched cars. Everyone arrived to the jobsites, had lunch, and then split up into work groups. Joel’s group included Bryan, Tori, Sarah, and Erin. They removed the deck boards in the back at Ms. Powell’s house. They also dug out support posts of the deck to get ready for concrete tomorrow. The rest of us stayed at the Delcid-Athey homes. At the Delcid home, one crew started digging the trenches for the wheelchair ramp. The Athey crew tore down and cleaned out under the deck. Janet and Melissa had a crew sorting the lumber out for the deck and the ramp. We arrived at the campsite at 3. We received our tent assignments and set up camp. The group set up 10 tents total. After set up, we unloaded the trailer and got our things set up for the week. Mt. Zion UMC made dinner for us. We had hotdogs, mac and cheese, fruit cups, chips, salad, etc. We finished with dinner and had some free time before vespers (Camp Joy’s nightly worship service). The youth group that was in charge of vespers did a skit reminding us to keep God first. (Starting to notice a theme??) Then when vespers was over we came back and got cleaned up. Joe and Adham set up electric for all of the tents and Lil’ Shawn (we are blessed with incoming senior Sean Irwin and incoming  8th grader Shawn Kelley so we have given the younger Shawn a nick name to keep them straight!)was the designated tree climber to help with this project. All in all today was a great day! God is good!!!  Well, the group has to get to bed now. Up and “Adham” at 6am! Going to continue the update tomorrow around the same time.

P.S. Big thunderstorm last night(Sun)….tents seemed to stay relatively dry….off to work we go

We have to coordinate adequate adult chaperone’s and transportation, so we will be sticking tightly to the Registration Deadline. Summer Sunday School

We’ll be offering Sunday School during the summer for both MS & HS(combined) in the HS Room. We’ll start at 9:45 and have: Mr. Joe, Ms. Janet, Mr. Bob, and myself(Joel) rotating as teachers through the summer.
